Key Stage One - Years 1 and 2

Age group 5 - 7 year olds

Start of the day

All children enter the school grounds and follow the footsteps into the Upper School playground where they can play.  Children should not arrive earlier than 8.30 as there will be no adult supervision. Our aim is for all children to become independent and confident in all they do.  To encourage this children are collected from the playground by their class teacher and are then led to their classrooms for registration. Each class has a number to line up at they are as follows.

12 – 1PB

11 – 1JP

10 – 2LH

9 – 2RF

Children arriving late must report to the school office to make sure they are marked as present and their dinner arrangements registered.  It is an official requirement to mark children arriving after close of register as late.

End of the day

School ends at 3.15pm

Parents/carers will collect their children from the end of the Lower School Playground. We do ask, however, that you do not to stand by the fenced area before 3.10pm as it is very distracting for the children at the end of the day.

Please ensure that the adult, who is responsible for your child, knows you are taking them.

Playtimes

Morning playtime is at 10.30 to 10.50.  Children are provided with fruit/vegetable but may bring their own piece of fruit / dried fruit /vegetables to eat. (Not cereal bars please).

Afternoon play is anytime between 2.30 to 3pm for 15 minutes according to how the afternoon lessons are set.

Lunchtime

Lunchtime begins at 12 o’clock.  All lunches are eaten in the canteen and carefully supervised. If your child has any special dietary requirements please make sure you have filled out a Dietary form at the office.

Can we remind parents/carers to be mindful of our healthy school status when making packed lunches for children to bring to school.

Understanding the book banding system.

Your child is always encouraged take home and share books with you.  I hope the following information will be useful. All the reading books in school have been colour coded into reading bands.

The children may be encouraged to choose their own book for independent reading.  The book band colours do not follow the same stages as ‘The Oxford Reading Tree Scheme’.  In fact some books which appear in the same stage are in different book bands.
